March in Alaska

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

March is a wonderful month in Alaska. The temperatures are warm(er), the days are longer, and there are a ton of flying opportunities. There's also some really fun events that happen here in March.

The Iditarod is nearly done now! The ceremonial start was on March 1st in Anchorage, and the official start was on March 2nd in Willow. We offered some really fun Chase the Race flight tours where clients got to view the race from above. But no one got a better seat than our own Lauren! Thanks to Make-A-Wish Alaska, Lauren got the opportunity to ride in the sled with her favorite musher Alex Buetow during the ceremonial start. She had a great time and said that she’ll be cheering Alex on throughout the race. Click here to check out the wonderful report that KTVA did on Lauren.

Another big Alaskan race will bring 680 skiers to Talkeetna on March 15th. The Oosik Classic Ski Race celebrates the end of ski season with a race like no other. As the Nordic Ski Club says, “It puts the ‘country’ into cross country skiing.” The route is different every year due to variable trail conditions, but you can always expect a fun and technically challenging race on beautiful terrain. It definitely won’t be your average winter weekend in Talkeetna and it’s not to be missed! And to top it off, K2 is offering a $150, one hour flight seeing special just for the Oosik Weekend. It’s a great deal, so be sure to book in advance. For more info check out our website or give our office a call for details and availability.

Here at the K2 office we are busy, busy, busy! The beautiful March weather we’ve been having has enabled flightseeing tours almost every single day, and we’ve started glacier landings! On top of that your reservations for the summer our pouring in! While we can’t say that winter is over yet, we can definitely say that things have kicked into high gear here. Can’t wait to see you all this summer!
