Expedition Preparation
Anchorage is the closest large city to Talkeetna. Most expeditions fly into the Anchorage International Airport. Lodging in the Anchorage area is affordable if reservations are made early. Many climbers choose to stay at the Anchorage Youth Hostel (907-276-3635) or Earth Tours B & B (907-279-9907). With a wide variety of shops and excellent grocery stores, Anchorage is the best place to pick up anything you need. For additional gear purchase or rental, Alaska Mountaineering & Hiking and REI are both located near the intersection of Spenard Road and Northern Lights Blvd.Expeditions should make all of their food and gear purchases before arriving in Talkeetna.
Provisioning for Mt. McKinley
K2 offers 125 lb (57 kg) gear allowance per person included in the round-trip flight service to the McKinley Base Camp and other Alaska Range locations. Please avoid the use of hard-sided containers.
Transportation To Talkeetna
Talkeetna is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Anchorage. The shuttle will stop in Wasilla at a grocery store for last minute items.
